Bijection vs Microsoft Fabric

Microsoft Fabric is Microsoft’s analytics platform: ingestion, pipelines, Spark, warehousing, real-time data and Power BI, all on one data lake called OneLake and sold as SaaS capacity. Its newer Fabric IQ layer adds business context on top: an ontology of entity types, relationships, rules and actions bound to OneLake data, with data agents and operations agents that work over it. More than 40,000 organizations pay for Fabric, according to Microsoft.

Bijection shares the ontology idea but sits on the operational side rather than the analytical one. The ontology lives in a transactional database, defined in TypeScript in your repository, and the changes people and agents make are approved, recorded and sent back to the systems that own the data. It is much younger and smaller than Fabric, and has none of its analytics and BI tooling.

What it is
BijectionA transactional database and runtime for your ontology, operations and applications.
Microsoft FabricMicrosoft’s analytics platform on one data lake, OneLake, with pipelines, Spark, warehousing, Power BI and an ontology layer called Fabric IQ.
How you build
BijectionTypeScript definitions in your Git repository, written by developers or coding agents. There are no visual builders yet.
Microsoft FabricLow-code pipelines and dataflows with more than 200 connectors, Spark notebooks, and an ontology built visually or generated from Power BI semantic models.
The ontology
BijectionThe operational store itself: objects, relationships and operations commit together in one transactional database.
Microsoft FabricA layer over OneLake data, in preview, with entity types, relationships, rules and actions.
Where it runs
BijectionA dedicated single-tenant environment per customer, operated by us. Not in your cloud account or on premises today.
Microsoft FabricMicrosoft-managed SaaS on Azure, with GCC High for US government announced for October 2026. No on-premises option.
Changes to other systems
BijectionDeclared operations. The intent is recorded before the call goes out, and an unanswered call stays unknown until it is reconciled.
Microsoft FabricOperations agents watch live data and trigger the actions you configure.
AI
BijectionModel calls are bounded steps with typed output. Agents reach data through scoped MCP endpoints and go through the same approvals as people.
Microsoft FabricCopilot in every workload, plus data agents and operations agents grounded in Fabric IQ.
Maturity
BijectionEarly. A small team and a focused core.
Microsoft FabricGenerally available since November 2023, with more than 40,000 paying organizations according to Microsoft.

Choose Microsoft Fabric if

  • You already run on Power BI, Entra and Microsoft 365, and want agents grounded in the semantic models you have.
  • Your main need is analytics: lakehouse, warehouse, streaming and BI under one capacity.
  • You want this from a vendor you already buy from.

Choose Bijection if

  • Your need is operational: people and agents changing records across systems, with approvals and a record of every change.
  • You want the ontology to be the transactional source your applications write to, not a layer over an analytical lake.
  • You would rather define the business in code, reviewed and versioned like the rest of your software, and let coding agents write most of it.
